The Chesscott Football Club is a youth sports club located in the village of Long Bay, Jamaica. The club’s goal is to provide the youth of Long Bay and surrounding areas with healthy opportunities to recreate, develop football skills, learn discipline and have constructive activities in which to be involved.
With support from a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer, the club contacted MRP for assistance in acquiring football (soccer) equipment, specifically balls and shoes. The equipment would allow the youth of Long Bay and surrounding communities to join together and develop or maintain football skills. The equipment gives youth the opportunity to be involved in healthy physical activities while also allowing them to develop their skills in anticipation of the official football season re-opening after COVID sanctions are lifted. Most importantly, MRP’s assistance will support Jamaican youth in healthy, constructive, and disciplined activities.
MRP was founded in 2004 by two U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers [Rhoads and Mer(v)] and continues looking for opportunities to serve the people of Jamaica. Youth sports development has been at the heart of MRP’s Jamaican projects since its inception and supporting Chesscott Football Club is a perfect match with MRP’s mission and goals.
