LINCOLN, NEBRASKA – May 01, 2025 – Mystic Rhoads Productions (MRP), a Lincoln-area nonprofit, has made a significant impact on local families by eliminating outstanding meal balances for 47 students at Roper Elementary School.
Roper Elementary, serving 773 students, faces unique challenges. As one of Lincoln’s most economically disadvantaged schools, nearly 60% of its students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Despite district support, many families struggle to keep up with meal payments, creating a financial burden.
MRP partnered with Roper Elementary administrators to identify families with overdue balances. Through a generous donation to Lincoln Public Schools, MRP was able to completely clear the debt, providing immediate relief to these families.
“This was an incredible gift to our Roper families,” said Maggie Picou, Assistant Principal at Roper Elementary. “We’re deeply grateful for MRP’s support and are working to identify more families who can benefit from their generosity.”
The Need is Real:
- Roper Elementary serves a high percentage of students facing economic hardship, with 60% qualifying for
meal assistance. - Many families face barriers in accessing available aid.
- Unlike 18 other Lincoln elementary schools, Roper does not receive 100% free meals for all students.
